The Republic of Moldova is one of the world's oldest wine-growing regions, with a viticultural tradition dating back more than 7,000 years. For millennia, grape growing and winemaking have been an integral part of the country's identity, shaping its culture, landscape, and way of life.

Today, Moldova is home to more than 135,000 hectares of vineyards, giving it one of the highest vineyard densities per capita in the world. The country cultivates over 50 grape varieties, combining indigenous grapes such as Rară Neagră and Fetească Regală with renowned international varieties including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling, and the Georgian Saperavi, all of which have adapted exceptionally well to the local terroir.

Moldova's reputation is further strengthened by its remarkable underground wine cellars. Carved into former limestone quarries, Cricova and Mileștii Mici form hundreds of kilometres of underground galleries, where naturally stable temperature and humidity create ideal conditions for aging wine. Mileștii Mici is also home to the world's largest wine collection, recognised by Guinness World Records. Located at the crossroads of Central and Eastern Europe, Moldova combines ancient winemaking traditions with exceptional natural conditions, making it one of the most distinctive wine-producing countries in the region.
