Founded in 1953 in Moldova’s Valul lui Traian region, the winery has evolved through decades of change—from the restrictions of the Soviet era and Moldova’s independence to its acquisition by the Dulgher family in 1999. Continuous investment in vineyards, technology and winemaking laid the foundation for the Gitana brand, launched in 2009, and its expansion into international markets from 2012 onwards. In 2025, the estate entered a new chapter as Dulgher Family Estate, placing family heritage at the heart of its identity while strengthening its international presence through the opening of its Zürich boutique.

For more than four decades, Petru and Svetlana Dulgher have built their work around a simple belief: never compromise on quality. Respect for the land, long-term commitment, and care for people have become values passed on to the second generation, Iuliana and Lilia, who now carry the family vision forward in their own fields.

Today, Dulgher Family Estate manages over 2,000 hectares of farmland, including around 360 hectares of vineyards in southern Moldova supplying Gitana Winery 1953. The vineyards are planted across carefully selected sites, with grape varieties matched to each parcel. Alongside its vineyards, the estate preserves the heritage of the historic winery founded in 1953 and the Dulgher family's winemaking legacy, carrying it forward from one generation to the next.
